Zinfandel got its start in California during the Gold Rush of 1849 after being imported from Vienna to the East coast around 1829. Zinfandel took firm hold in California wine country in the 1880’s and really took off in the 1980’s after a winemaking mistake led to the making of white zinfandel. Red Zinfandel fans and there are many have a wide variety of styles to choose from.
