Viognier became one of the world’s most fashionable white grape varieties in the 1990’s and today is challenging Chardonnay’s monopoly of the white wine market. Viognier is known to winegrowers as a very difficult grape to grow. The nose of the Viognier wine comes across as sweet whereas the taste itself is on the dry side.
