Syrah or Shiraz as the Australians prefer, is a serious red wine capable of aging for decades. Australia started planting the Shiraz grape around 1832 and Washington State realized in the 1990’s that Syrah flourished in the Walla Walla Valley. Syrah’s origins have been the subject of much debate; its name suggests some history to either Syracuse in Sicily or the Shiraz of Ancient Persia.

Some Syrah top producers form Washington: Delille Cellars Syrah, Dunham Cellars Syrah, Boudreaux Syrah, Long Shadows Sequel Syrah, and Spring Valley Vineyard Syrah.
